Notes |
The Orléans codex 261 is composed of five sections. The only section relevant here is the fourth (pp. 42–135), which in turn is constituted by two Breton codicological units of different date: unit (A), pp. 42–73 (= A1 in Kerlouégans 1992 and Poulin 2009), and unit (B), pp. 74–135 (= A2 in Kerlouégan 1992 and Poulin 2009). The present entry concerns unit (A), which contains an abridged version of Wrmonocus's Life of Saint Paul Aurelian and may have been written at Landévennec shortly after AD 884 (when Wrmonocus completed his Vita). Both units (A and B) were probably brought to Fleury by Mabbo, Bishop of Saint-Pol-de-Léon, around AD 960 (cf. LF BF715; Pellegrin and Bouhot 2010: 329–30). Mostert (LF BF715) and Pellegrin and Bouhot (2010: 328) draw attention to the insular ruling and pricking techniques visible in this MS, pointing (in Mostert's view) to an origin in the scriptorium of Landévennec (in relation to this matter cf. also CMD VII, 492). |
