Connection with Brittany

This copy of the Martyrologium Usuardi, written at Fleury between AD 1002 and 1004 under the abbacy of either Abbo or Gauzlin (cf. Pellegrin and Bouhot 2010: 458–9), contains several additions (by both the prima and the secunda manus) mentioning Breton saints. We may mention in particular: eodem die sancti Gildas confessoris (2 March, a secunda manu); in Britannia transitus sancti Pauli episcopi et confessoris miraculorum uita clarissimi (12 March; cf. Vidier 1965: 101, n. 186); in Britannia sancti Chorentini episcopi (1 May); Floriaco monasterio consecratio altarium in honore sanctorum episcoporum Martini atque Pauli et beati patris Benedicti ac discipuli eius Mauri (18 August, a secunda manu); Floriaco monasterio translatio sancti Pauli (10 October, a secunda manu); Redonas sancti Melani episcopi et confessoris (11 October, a secunda manu). The entry for 23 November (a prima manu) says what follows about Columbanus: in Italia monasterio Bobio sancti Columbani abbatis qui multorum cenobiorum fundator multis clarus uirtutibus quieuit in pace.
