Notes

In his Katalog entry for this codicological unit (Kat. §3941), Bischoff only provided the laconic attribution 'Wohl Nordfrankreich.' While there is no evidence at all to suggest that this MS was written in Brittany, it is nonetheless the earliest extant witness to the important Vita Prima of Saint Samson, and for this reason it was used by Flobert as the basis for his edition of this text (cf. Flobert 1997: 45): accordingly, it is worth listing it here. The ninth-century dating indicated in the present hand-list is the one given by Bischoff (Kat. §3941); other scholars proposed much later dates (see the references provided in Poulin 2009: 322). Poulin (2009: 322) describes this MS as being 'de facture modeste.' Before being bound in the present heterogeneous codex, the codicological unit in question must have been at the head of a miscellaneous hagiographical collection assembled in the twelfth century (cf. Poulin 1999; 2006: 145).
